Turmeric Golden Paste for Dog Muscle and Joint Pain
Turmeric is a traditional treatment for muscle and joint pain. While the spice is typically used in curry, it has many other uses and benefits. We use turmeric golden paste to help our dogs manage their muscle and joint pain.
Combined with black pepper and oil, the turmeric is easily absorbed into the dog’s body. Dogs, like humans, do not digest or absorb turmeric well without the addition of pepper and oil. These two ingredients in the golden paste are not just to help make the paste a more sticky substance, they serve a biological need as well.

Turmeric Golden Paste Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/2 cup Water
- 1/2 cup Turmeric Powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
- 3 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
Recipe Directions:
- In a small saucepan combine turmeric and water over medium low heat.
- Stir to mix completely and continue stirring occasionally while heating.
- Cook until turmeric water reaches the consistency of peanut butter.
- Add pepper and coconut oil. Mix well to incorporate.
- Pour into two 8 ounce jelly jars or one 16 ounce jar.
- Allow to cool. Store in refrigerator.
Notes:
The turmeric and water takes about 10 minutes to reach a good consistency. Be patient. You want it to look like melty peanut butter. If it’s too runny, add some more turmeric. If it’s too thick, add a sprinkle of more water.
Dosage:
Start small and work your way up to a larger dose. Give a dose twice a day for most dogs.
- Small dogs – 10 to 20 pounds – up to 1/4 teaspoon
- Medium Dogs – 20 to 50 pounds – up to 1 teaspoon
- Large Dogs – 50 to 100 pounds – up to 2 teaspoon
- Extra Large Dogs – over 100 pounds – up to 3 teaspoon
Where to find ingredients:
Your local grocery store or drug store may carry all the ingredients you need. Ground turmeric and black pepper are available in the spice counter. The coconut oil may be with the cooking oils in the baking or salad aisle. We’ve found the best option for turmeric is to buy it in bulk at a spice dealer. Given that we are making turmeric for two dogs and going thru a recipe per week, we need to purchase more than 5 ounces at a time.
