Honey-ID1911151 Adoption Pending
About Honey (ID# 1911151)
Honey is an approximately 9-month old female lab mix who is ready to find her forever home. She’s a very sweet dog who loves hanging out with her humans. She’s being fostered with another dog and four cats, and children that often visit. She does well with all of them. She’s very active and has somewhat of a strong personality. She’s heartworm negative. She’s up to date on all vaccines and heartworm preventatives. She’s scheduled for her spay in February of 2020, and is about to start obedience training for basic commands and manners. The spay and obedience training will not interfere with her being adopted. If she is adopted before her spay or before completing her training, the adopter will follow through with these. She is being fostered in Shelby, Ohio. A meet and greet for the adopter and any dogs in their home will be required before any adoption is approved.
History
She was found dumped behind a local church with 7 different breaks in both of her rear legs. Rescued Rollers has invested close to $10,000 for Honey to have surgery to repair the breaks, resulting in several pins in her legs and an FHO (femur head removal) on her left hip. She has a fairly limited range of motion in her left rear leg and slight range of motion issues in her right rear leg which are improving with physical therapy exercises in her foster home. These injuries, although healed, result in a noticeably unique gait when she walks, but she can walk or run just like any other dog.
Summary
Good with:
- Adults and children
- Dogs – although she does like to play a little rough, and will sometimes hoard their toys.
- Cats – Honey does well with cats – until they run – then the game is on. She doesn’t hurt them, but when they run, she feels compelled to chase them. Fosters are currently working on this issue.
Not good with:
- We haven’t found anything that Honey can’t handle yet
Personality
- Although loving and sweet, Honey can be a little headstrong at times. She would do best in an adoptive home that can provide a certain measure of structure and supervision until she grows out of being a puppy.
- Honey sometimes plays a little rough with the dog she is being fostered with. The fosters are working on this, but if you have other dogs in your home, you’ll need to supervise her play with them.
- Honey does just fine with cats. She’s being fostered with 4 of them. She will chase the cats if they run. If they don’t run, she won’t chase them. She doesn’t hurt them, she just wants to play with them. Her fosters are working in this behavior.
Important Adopter Information
- As with any puppy, Honey can be headstrong at times. Honey will thrive in a patient home with a fairly structured routine.
- Honey’s adopter will need to continue her home-based physical therapy exercises for most of her life. These are simple walking exercises. We will demonstrate them to you, and supply you with a book that details with photographs the exercises you’ll need to do.
- Honey will require long, controlled walks on a frequent basis to keep her hips and rear legs in the best condition possible. This should be considered part of her physical therapy and is very important.
- Honey is being fostered in Shelby, Ohio. A first meet and greet with her potential adopter is required at her home in Shelby. If you have other dogs, a second meet and greet with your dogs in neutral territory will be required.
